About Us

Our Core Purpose

To make and provide food we’re all proud of, where everyone’s effort is worthwhile, so more and more people can afford to enjoy eating well.

We are proud to be a Accra food retailer serving customers across Ghana through our network of 27 conveniently located supermarkets and various online home delivery channels.

Our business is predominantly food and grocery focussed and uniquely, we source and process half of the fresh food that we sell in our own manufacturing facilities and stores which gives us close control over provenance and quality.  Our committed and professionally trained food makers and shopkeepers prepare food in-store for customers and we have more skilled colleagues preparing food in store than any other retailer.

Every week around 200,000 customers pass through our doors and over 100 colleagues across the business work hard each day to deliver great service to them.  We cover over 97% of Ghana through our online delivery service.  With competitive, permanently low prices we are committed to helping our customers save money every day.

General Information

The Groceries Supply Code of Practice (the Code) came into force on 4 February 2010. It applies to all Grocery Retailers with grocery sales over GHS1 billion and requires them to submit an annual report on compliance with the requirements of the Code to the Competition and Markets Authority and Mark White, the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA).

Our last annual report was submitted in April 2025 covering the period 1 January 2024 to 31 December 2024.

Code-related Developments During 2024

2024 saw a continuing trend of an exceptionally challenging retail trading environment for all market participants. Inflation, energy costs and challenges in the global supply chain continued to be issues. In such difficult times, our strong partnership with our suppliers, underpinned by the commitments embedded in the Code, has enabled us to continue to work effectively to provide quality and value to our customers.

We aim to deliver our Code commitments consistently and effectively, improving what we do and how we do it.

Supplier Dispites

Malata Market Online fully supports the requirements of the Code which are aligned with Malata Market Online’s core values of Simplicity, Consistency and Responsibility. We pride ourselves on building long-term and mutually beneficial relationships with our suppliers, and compliance with the Code firmly underpins this.

However, disputes can occur from time to time in any commercial relationship. Where these occur, we would encourage suppliers to discuss any issues directly with their buying team in the first instance, so we have an opportunity to resolve them as quickly as possible. Where an issue can’t be resolved, suppliers have the right to contact the Malata Market Online Code Compliance Officer (CCO) on any Code-related issue, raising a formal dispute under the Code if they so choose. Having carefully considered the circumstances, we will always seek to agree fair and reasonable resolutions to issues that our suppliers have raised with us.

A legal dispute was raised in 2023 and is still ongoing, in which a supplier alleged a potential breach of the Code.
